PLAY FALSE | cultural association was founded in 2019 by São Castro and António M Cabrita, with the aim of representing the authorial work of these two choreographers, who have been creating pieces individually and together, since 2011. The association promotes the dissemination, production, and research primarily in the field of dance, while also embracing multidisciplinary projects that encourage the intersection of artistic languages, extending invitations to collaborate with other artists.
São Castro and António M Cabrita received the Authors’ Award from the Portuguese Society of Authors for the piece Play False (2015) in the Best Choreography category, and both were honored by the Polytechnic University of Lisbon with the Silver Medal of Value and Distinction (2016).
The association is deeply committed to projects that bridge art and education, as well as art and community. One of its flagship initiatives is “Dance and Creative Learning”, a program that operates in schools and engages students by intersecting dance with curricular disciplines such as mathematics, literature, and philosophy. This program exemplifies the association's dedication to fostering meaningful encounters and shared experiences between artists and audiences, to create opportunities for dialogue and connections with communities. Another example is the event "The City Dances," curated by São Castro at the invitation of the Municipality of São João da Madeira
Play False aims to contribute to the development of a platform that asserts and values national artistic creation and production, while also serving as a vehicle for its international dissemination.
